-
- My use of WinTalk has vascilliated from excellent to abortive. For me, the
- original problem (at top) was due to a previous talk session aborting and the
- remote server (unix) not closing down or quickly enough. WinTalk apparently
- balked at receiving talk packets without initialising the current session.
-
- Either waiting or "killing" the remote talk process manually, fixed that
- problem.
-
- The nameserver made no difference to me in that respect. It meant I could
- initiate sessions to anyone with an entry in the DNS.
-
- But further: If I initiate the seesion, no problems. But when some machines
- initiate the session, WinTalk goes into it's round of errors which effectively
- crashes my system. So I keep it set with "accepting no calls" when using.
-
- To check for the first explanation I've given, before running WinTalk, open up
- the winsock manager and switch on the traces and wait to see if any TALK
- packets are arriving.
-
- talk 517 udp
- ntalk 518 udp
-
- Otherwise it's a beaudy package.
